?How do you learn best?
by being told? by demonstration? "hands on" tutorials?
It all starts with COMMUNICATION. Mind reading is not something most of us do. Let's discuss it, when there is a problem, question, issue of some sort. Talking ABOUT an issue is NOT addressing it, and will solve nothing.
On this issue of vinegar in clay... This from the site below it!
Some clay makers will occasionally add vinegar to clay to improve its workability. However, if clay that has had vinegar added is not used within a few weeks, then the smell can get to be too much. I don’t recommend it at all, because if you are trying to get rid of the smell, this will make it worse in the long run. Epsom salts will not cause the strong odor associated with vinegar, but will have the beneficial effect of helping to flocculate the clay body. Keep in mind that clay may contain bacteria anyway, and Epsom salts will not prevent their growth.
Have fun with this! MY pinterest site has some examples for you. If you need ideas ask...we (the class) can help you brainstorm, based on your personality/likes. ; ) It will be important for you to work quickly but with care, and wrap your piece tightly each night so that it doesn't dry out.
Assignment 4 Coil Vessel

Assignment #2 Due Friday January 29th at 3:45PM
Please watch the following video.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ekN8X0KYkY
So...where to begin?
Subject matter. The best thing to do it think of your favorite things. My example? Cats. So I Google it.
You know me. Of course, I'll Google that, in images. Here's what I found that I liked: http://www.google.com/imgres?q=clay+cat+tile&um=1&hl=en&safe=active&client=safari&sa=N&tbo=d&rls=en&biw=1155&bih=599&tbm=isch&tbnid=aFhw6YmZIm-yRM:&imgrefurl=http://www.etsy.com/listing/106564659/2-pc-grey-tabby-cat-with-heart-mini-clay&docid=kr3kFMrH_llDNM&itg=1&imgurl=http://img2.etsystatic.com/000/0/5664852/il_fullxfull.318855262.jpg&w=1304&h=1142&ei=1JL9UPXoMonD2QX0-4HYAQ&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=527&sig=109693088153776384717&page=3&tbnh=138&tbnw=146&start=49&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:49,s:0,i:236&tx=80&ty=83
Will I copy it completely? No. I will create my own version. Probably Siamese.
You? You will do a VERSION of the one you like too. It needs to be at least 4X4 inches and no less than 1/2 inch deep and no more than 1" in depth. It needs to have carved out, as well as additive pieces as the one in the video did. As far as the Elements and Principles are concerned? Texture. That would be great. Keep it fairly simple, and be sure to slip and score to add pieces to the tile! ?s? Ask please, I am not good at reading minds.
